Reasons Behind the Ban

KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed that from July 1, 2025, Malaysia will ban the registration and operation of natural gas vehicles (NGVs) on its roads due to safety concerns. This Cabinet decision, made on October 2, also includes phasing out NGV fuel sales, with PETRONAS beginning the process immediately.

Aid for Transition to Petrol Vehicles

To assist in the transition, Loke announced that eligible NGV owners would receive RM3,000 vouchers, available within 30 days after application. Applications for fully NGV-operated vehicles will close on December 31, while applications for dual-fuel vehicles will remain open until April 30, 2025.

As of now, there are 9,509 NGV taxis, 32,137 private NGVs, 2,150 natural gas buses and lorries, and 587 NGVs used in machinery.
