PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia Airlines has confirmed the acquisition of 30 brand-new aircraft in a move to replace its ageing fleet and improve operational efficiency. The airline has also secured an option to purchase 30 more aircraft in the coming years, ensuring flexibility for future growth.

Malaysia Aviation Group managing director Captain Datuk Izham Ismail revealed that the new fleet consists of 18 Boeing 737-8 and 12 Boeing 737-10 aircraft, powered by the latest CFM International LEAP-18 engines. These aircraft are designed to optimize fuel consumption and provide better performance.

Delivery Timeline and Fleet Management Strategy

Speaking at a document exchange ceremony with The Boeing Company on Friday (March 21), Izham highlighted that 11 of the new aircraft had already been delivered, with the remaining jets scheduled to arrive by 2027. He emphasized that proper fleet management is crucial to ensuring Malaysia Airlines remains resilient in the face of industry challenges.

“Last year, we faced difficulties due to ageing aircraft and supply chain constraints. This investment ensures we don’t face the same issues again and allows us to maintain smooth operations,” Izham explained.
