
KUALA LUMPUR: Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Regent of Johor, recently hosted a significant meeting focusing on the future of Malaysian football, bringing together Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and FAM president Tan Sri Hamidin Amin in Johor Bahru.
Following the announcement of the 2025 Budget, the meeting tackled crucial matters regarding the development of the national team and youth programs.
This initiative follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of RM15 million for football development, primarily aimed at acquiring elite coaches, enhancing training programs, and providing player incentives.
“Tunku Mahkota Ismail, the Regent of Johor, received Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on Oct 23. During their discussions, various topics regarding current events and Johor were covered.
“FAM president Hamidin and Sports Minister Hannah were also present, discussing Malaysian football’s development and the national team’s future,” according to the statement.
These talks represent a united front among the government, FAM, and Johor royalty to further Malaysia’s football ambitions.
With a focus on national, Under-18, and Under-13 teams, this collaboration aims to strengthen Malaysia’s international football presence and cultivate local talent.
