JOHOR BARU: A married couple is among three people arrested in a major drug bust that resulted in the seizure of drugs worth over RM700,000 in Bandar Seri Alam.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak stated that the arrests took place at 9:30 PM on October 18. This followed a week-long surveillance operation by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).
The suspects were apprehended while allegedly preparing to deliver the drugs to other members of their syndicate, who remain at large. “We believe this group is part of a larger network. Their role is to act as couriers, transporting drugs from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Baru,” Supt Sohaimi noted.
The suspects had gathered the drugs and were waiting for pickup by other syndicate members. The vehicle used for storing and transporting the drugs will be transferred to the individuals responsible for distribution.
The suspects include a 58-year-old local man, his 45-year-old foreign wife, and a 40-year-old male driver. All three tested negative for drugs. Background checks found that the local man has two previous drug-related offences, the driver has seven, and the woman has one.
This group has reportedly been active since July. During the operation, police seized 20 packets of syabu weighing approximately 22kg, valued at RM705,472. Each packet weighs around 1kg and is worth more than RM30,000.
Additionally, police confiscated the syndicate’s vehicle, valued at RM45,000. The suspects are currently on remand until Thursday, October 31, to assist with the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
