MRT3 Project Construction May Start in 2027

Current Status: Ongoing Land Acquisition Process

KUALA LUMPUR: The Mass Rapid Transit 3 (MRT3) project, part of the Klang Valley’s expanded transit network, may see its construction begin only in 2027 due to the ongoing land acquisition process, according to MRT Corp CEO Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim.

The public inspection phase for the project is currently in progress and will conclude by December 2. Once concluded, MRT Corp will finalize its alignment before starting the land acquisition process, which is expected to take about 24 months, possibly extending into 2026.

Economic Landscape to Determine Construction Timing

“Our goal is to begin in 2027, but that depends on economic conditions,” Zarif commented. “The economy is on an upward trajectory, and we hope it will provide the necessary foundation to proceed,” he added during the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards (MCIEA 2024).

Recognition of MRT Corp’s Excellence at MCIEA

At the MCIEA 2024, MRT Corp also received the “Best Project Award in Infrastructure (Major Category)” for the Klang Valley MRT: Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line. The MRT3 Circle Line will link various MRT and LRT systems, creating an interconnected network. The 51km line will carry up to 25,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with a journey time of 73 minutes.
