A trailer driver, aged 51, was arrested in Penang after his container fell onto a woman’s vehicle, killing her at a Jalan Bukit Tengah intersection on Wednesday, Nov 13.

Driver Detained Under Road Transport Act

ACP Helmi Aris, the Seberang Perai Tengah police chief, confirmed that the driver is detained under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further investigation.

Initial Alcohol and Drug Test Results

Initial alcohol and urine tests returned negative results. However, authorities will seek a remand for the driver at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate Court on Thursday.

Witnesses Encouraged to Come Forward

Details on the Victim and Injuries

Lee Zi Rou, 21, was on her way to work in her Perodua Bezza when the accident occurred. The container, which fell from the trailer, crushed her car. Additionally, a Honda Jazz driven by Tan Chou Theng, 25, was seriously damaged, and Tan sustained serious injuries.

The Chain of Collisions

The incident happened around 9:30 AM. Five cars and a lorry were stopped at a traffic light on Jalan Kebun Sirih when the trailer, coming from Jalan Bukit Tengah, made an unexpected left turn. The driver lost control, and the container fell onto two stopped vehicles. This caused the cars to move backward and collide with three other cars and a lorry.
