
KOTA KINABALU: The body of a 40-year-old man, believed to have been killed by a crocodile, was discovered by villagers on Friday (Dec 27) along the Kinabatangan River. The victim, identified as Masdi Sahar, was found approximately 1km from the site of the boat accident.
Crocodile Attack After Boat Capsizes
Masdi and three other men were on a boat, transporting belian wood, when the vessel collided with an unknown object, leading to a capsize. Three of the men managed to swim to safety, but Masdi was heard crying for help as he was attacked by a crocodile. Unfortunately, they couldn’t reach him in time.
Cooperative Search and Rescue Efforts
The Kinabatangan fire station was contacted at 1:35 pm on Thursday, and rescuers arrived at the scene at 2:45 pm. The search and rescue operation was a combined effort of the Fire and Rescue Department, local police, wildlife rangers, and nearby villagers.
Investigation Underway Following Discovery
Masdi’s body has been transferred to the police for further investigation. Early reports indicate that he had been fishing with a friend at the time of the tragic event.
