A Significant Tourism Milestone

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia and China’s 30-day visa-free policy marks a major step in strengthening tourism and economic ties. Malaysian Tourism Federation president Datuk Tan Kok Liang highlighted the mutual benefits of this arrangement.

Tan praised China’s move to align with Malaysia’s visa-free policy, saying it creates a win-win situation. “This plan will enhance travel experiences and boost revenue for both nations,” he said.

New Opportunities for Travel

The visa-free policy, effective from Nov 30, 2023, to Dec 31, 2025, offers Malaysians the chance to enjoy longer stays in China. Tour operators are now preparing for the expected surge in demand. Many have started designing extended and more diverse travel packages.

“This initiative opens doors for tourists to explore deeper cultural and geographical attractions,” Tan explained.

Business Benefits and Cultural Exchange

The policy also benefits entrepreneurs. It allows Malaysians to build stronger ties with China’s industries, such as IT and manufacturing. “Businesses should seize this opportunity to expand their global reach,” Tan urged.

Additionally, the extended stay fosters better cultural exchanges and economic collaborations, promoting stronger bilateral ties.

Call for Sustainable Measures

Despite advocating for a permanent visa-free policy, Malaysia Chinese Business Council director Datuk Beh Hang Kong stressed the importance of safeguards. He warned that unchecked policies could lead to exploitation. “We need measures to protect the integrity of this arrangement,” Beh said.

Proper monitoring will ensure sustainable tourism growth and preserve the positive impact of this initiative for both nations.
