A Heartbreaking Call
BUKIT MERTAJAM: “Mummy, I’m so in pain!” The final words of 21-year-old Lee Zi Rou, trapped beneath a fallen cargo container, will forever echo in her mother Lim’s memory.
An Ominous Moment
The call came to Lim at 9:24 a.m. In a video shared with China Press, she recounted her overwhelming fear and helplessness as Lee struggled to speak.
The Desperate Search
Lim set out with her other daughter, searching for Lee along her usual commute. After many unanswered calls, a man picked up, giving them the tragic news. Lim arrived shortly after, but despite her pleas, the container was immovable.
Hopes Lost
“I thought there was hope since she managed to call,” Lim shared tearfully.
Funeral and Legal Developments
Lee’s funeral is scheduled for Sunday. Meanwhile, the 51-year-old driver faces up to 10 years in jail, large fines, and a potential license suspension for reckless driving. Initial testing cleared him of any substance use.
Scene of the Tragedy
The incident occurred on Jalan Bukit Tengah, where the trailer lost control, and the container fell onto Lee’s car. Another driver involved, Tan Chou Theng, 25, is hospitalized with injuries.
