The suspect linked to the murder of interior designer Muhammad Sharqawi Abu Bakar, aged 36, is set to face charges tomorrow in the Petaling Jaya Court. This was confirmed today by Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Jaafar, District Police Chief of Petaling Jaya.
The suspect, a 50-year-old man who is currently unemployed, was arrested with two others at a Kuala Lumpur apartment on Sept 20. Police investigations have indicated that the motive behind the attack was theft.
Shahrulnizam mentioned that the suspect had entered the victim’s home with the aim of stealing. A confrontation with the victim ensued, leading to a struggle and ultimately, the death of Muhammad Sharqawi.
On Sept. 16, the victim was found at his home in Persiaran Meranti, Bandar Sri Damansara, with over 20 stab wounds. Initially treated as a break-in case, the investigation was later reclassified as a robbery leading to death, as several personal items were reported missing from the scene.
